Right now, something that a lot of games have focused on is having highly customizable player models. What we want most from games is immersion and in the past, not a lot of us felt connected to the main protagonist that a lot of games had to offer.
This was especially the case because most of the protagonists in games were males and for female players out there, it really felt as though the games were not catered towards them. Even now, the majority of protagonists in games are male and with the amount of girl gamers increasing every year, it can be disheartening to see.
Thankfully, for the majority of non-story mode-based games, you have complete control over what your character looks like. This means that you can choose which gender your character is, how big they are and exactly what they look like.
What we all look for in our games is to have completely unique characters that really reflect our individual personalities. Many people share their character designs and a lot of the Minecraft skins uploaded in 2022 have been created by normal people that have found inspiration in the weirdest ways. If you are someone that plays a lot of games and you have created a lot of unique characters, then you may be running out of ideas for how you can design your next character.
You can find inspiration just about anywhere but somewhere that you may not consider when trying to find inspiration for your next character is your home. Your home can actually be the perfect source of inspiration for designing a player model for a number of reasons and here are just some of them.
Your Surroundings Are Based on You
If you think about your home and how it is decorated, it is all based on your personal taste and what you enjoy. Your character should be the same, to other players your character is a reflection of your personality and who you are as a person. If you look around your home, you will get a good idea of what kind of style and taste you have. For example, you may notice that you like a more gothic decor or your house can be very chic. You can take these themes and apply it to your character and it will really represent you.
You Probably Have Signature Decor
As humans, we all have the habit of picking a certain element of decor that we really enjoy and running with it. Personally, the main focus of decor in my house are plants. I have plants absolutely everywhere and I use them as decor. You probably have something like that such as figurines or funko pops. Why not use what you have around your house to inspire you and give you. For example, if you collect Marvel memorabilia, why not make a Marvel-themed character?
Textiles and Furnishings May Be a Great Inspiration
Once again, when it comes to our homes we usually pick a variety of textures and textiles that we use and enjoy. For example, there are people out there that like a more velour look throughout their house and they enjoy crushed velvet furnishings. If you have certain textiles and textures throughout your house, something that you can do is apply these textures to your character. If you can pick the texture of the clothes your character is wearing, why not imitate the textures in your home?
Color Scheme is Something You Can Embrace
We all have a favorite color and if you are in control of the design of your home, then it is likely that you have based at least one room based on your favorite color. Your favorite color really reflects who you are as a person and so it only makes sense that you would add your favorite color to your character. If you do not want your player model to be running around in one color, you could make it a bit more subtle and make your favorite color their hair color or the color of the accessories they have.
Your Pet
If you are lucky, it is likely that you have a pet. In a lot of fantasy games you can play, you do not have to strictly stick to humans in your design and you can be a number of creatures. I know someone that has a pet lizard and they used this lizard as the inspiration for an Argonian Skyrim character that they have. They used the same name, the same color patterns that his lizard has and they really brought their character to life. This is a fun way to make your character very exciting and do something that is a bit out of the box and creative.
